With BIM, a three-dimensional model of an entire building can be created in as short a time as 48 hours. This was what more than 200 built environment professionals and students from eight countries did in an international competition themed “BIM for Sustainable Design”. Organised by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the non-profit organisation, buildingSMART Singapore, the competition is part of BCA’s ongoing efforts in promoting the benefits of tapping on computing technology to help professionals work on their building projects.

At the end of the 48 hours, the participants were required to provide a fully integrated model of a hotel building including architectural, structural building services design and calculations, sun and wind analysis, energy analysis and consumption data, constructability analysis and model checking.
Congratulations to the WSP Asia team, who won an award for their best use of BIM in performing various analysis and simulations across different software platforms.
