Façade engineering from WSP
Façades form the ‘envelope’ (walls and a roof) between the internal and external environments. Their design fundamentally affects the performance of the whole building. Good façade design contributes to optimised performance, reduced energy costs and improved comfort levels.
Our goal is to integrate the thermal, acoustic, fire and ventilation performance requirements, whilst honouring the aesthetic intent. All these objectives to be delivered within the context of environmental sustainability and economic viability.
New regulations governing energy use and environmental sustainability are a major driver for technological innovation, which will bring great benefits, but inevitably introduce an element of risk. Our façade engineers are aware of the technological, contractual and commercial risks, and advise on the best way of mitigating the risks, whilst securing the benefits.
We’ve supported prestigious, complex projects around the world, from the Milton Court development in London to the People’s Congress in Tripoli. Our clients include developers, architects, contractors and fund managers.
WSP's staff have experience designing and implementing curtain walling systems, as well as practical experience of the industry. Our façade engineering services range from outline strategic advice to more focused detailed input, from a project’s inception through to its completion.
Our services cover:
- feasibility studies (typically RIBA stages A–B)
- concept design (typically RIBA stage C)
- scheme design (typically RIBA stage E)
- detail design/tender documentation (typically RIBA stage F–H)
- tender
- post contract award (during the contractor design development period and construction).
