The Highways Agency awarded a £340 million contract in January 2007, to widen the M1 between Junctions 25 and 28 in the East Midlands to the MVM, a construction joint venture between Sir Robert MacAlpine, Vinci and Morgan Est. Design services to this Early Contractor Involvement contract are being provided by WSP in joint venture with Gifford and this design will require new lighting to ensure the widening of sections that are currently three-lane, to four-lane motorway by creating a new hard shoulder and using the old one to provide an extra lane in each direction.
Services provided
The lighting team will undertake the following works:
- Site surveys of existing lighting/electrical equipment affected by the works.
- Site clearance drawings of any existing lighting/associated cabling.
- Lighting Design drawings.
- Design of electrical infrastructure (in accord with BS7671).
- Production of Standard Detail drawings.
- Liaison with all Key Stake Holders.
- Production of Specification.
- Production of Bill of Quantities.
- Site supervision/handover inspections.
