WSP will be responsible for i.a. the design of the entire line and a number of crossings and several tunnels, including one tunnel about 300 meters long.
Stockholm Public Transport (SL) is planning, together with Stockholm, Sundbyberg and Solna local boroughs, to expand the Cross Link between Alvik and Solna stations. The region has experienced robust growth in recent years and there is now an increasing demand for an attractive and more efficient public transport.
WSP has been commissioned to design the route through Solna in detail. The assignment, which is subject to necessary political decisions, faces major technological challenges, for example the construction of concrete tunnels under groundwater level in a very narrow and busy streets.
“SL's requirement from the beginning was that their suppliers would be able to handle a so called partnering contract and it is once again encouraging to get an acknowledgment that WSP with its combined range of competence is one of the best companies to manage such a large project” says Eskil Sellgren, WSP Civils SE Director.
The project has now begun and currently engages some 40 staff. It is estimated to be completed 2010, the complete new northern part of the Cross Link is planned to be fully operational in 2012-2013.
