WSP's special fields of expertise are infrastructure and organisational development cooperation
In our work in developing and emerging economies WSP is providing management and consultancy services in primarily infrastructure planning, design and supervision. We are also engaged in appraising, advising, managing, monitoring and training. This is a changing business in a changing world, and as needs for development cooperation have changed, so have our capabilities. Nowadays our resources include specialists in governance, private and financial sector development, management accounting, economics, urban and regional planning, environmental analysis and social development, in addition to the engineering skills upon which WSP was founded in the mid twentieth century.
Our purpose is to bring about sustainable change and development. To achieve lasting change whilst remaining sensitive to the associated issues, we become involved at the earliest stage possible with our clients' operations. Our approach therefore is 'hands-on', but always with a proper regard to the contractual relationship between client and consultant – a relationship which must preserve a combination of involvement and detachment if it is to work to our clients' best advantage. We greatly value the relationships, long or short term, which make possible the provision of high quality, client-centred consulting interventions.
We work with a wide range of clients, primarily public sector organisations in the developing countries and emerging economies. Financiers of the projects include the major multi and bilateral international financing institutions and donor organisations. We also carry out projects financed directly by public or private clients. Examples of this are the Third Generation Planning Project and other projects for the Government of Libya.
