WSP SELLS performed the 2008 biennial inspection and previously completed the 2004 and 2000 biennial and 2005 and 2001 special inspection of this structure.
This bridge is a 13,200 foot long double decked structure with a 4,260 foot long main center suspension span flanked by two side spans each 1, 215 feet long. WSP SELLS utilized up to six inspection teams employing a variety of access methods including high lifts, bucket trucks, underbridge units, traveler, free climbing and necessary MPT.
Unique Highlights Included:
- Biennial & special inspections of world’s fourth longest suspension span bridge
- Applied industrial rope access techniques, and performed vertical drops in excess of 400 feet
- Design of miscellaneous steel repairs totaling $3.5 million construction cost
