As part of a joint venture, WSP SELLS was responsible for the geometric alternative designs, traffic analysis and modeling, and the development of maintenance and protection of traffic alternatives for the replacement of the Bronx and Queens Approaches to the Bronx Whitestone Bridge, and for the design alternatives for a new interchange with the Cross Island Parkway and Whitestone Expressway.
The interchange improvement alternatives were designed to accommodate a future second level on the bridge using a number of different toll collection technologies, including high-speed EZ-PASS.
Unique Highlights Included:
- Investigation of alternatives to improve traffic flow
- Synchro used to model local road/intersection modifications
Awards
WSP SELLS received a 2006 ACEC Platinum Award in Studies, Research & Consulting Services for the feasibility study to rehabilitate and upgrade the elevated and on-grade approaches to the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge.
