WSP Lincolne Scott

Green DNA

WSP Lincolne Scott has led the push to design that is not just environmentally sustainable but also commercially viable and our projects have acted as a catalyst for change within the industry.

We believe every project can be delivered with reduced environmental impacts. This principle underpins all our work, whether overtly green, or not.

By taking custody of environmental outcomes and commercial value we are able to show a lineage of progressive environmental projects which have stayed ahead of industry expectations.

We established Built Ecology – Australia’s first dedicated environmental practice - within WSP Lincolne Scott to provide world recognised thought leadership and ownership of environmental impacts on behalf of our clients. Built Ecology and WSP Lincolne Scott work hand in hand on environmental issues, and in managing any technical or delivery risk.

By delivering green buildings that work, we have helped prove the business case for environmentally sustainable design. Where necessary we have also advocated ensuring environmental impacts are reflected in local and national government development policy.

We have supported the industry through our role in the development of independent certification of green standards. We were the founding chair of the World Green Building Council, and we co-founded the Green Building Council of Australia. We also chaired the Technical Steering Committee which produced the Green Building Council of Australia’s Green Star rating tools and, as of August 2009, we have achieved more than 100 certified Green Stars.

We have also achieved some impressive Green Star and LEED firsts, such as:

  • 30 The Bond, Australia’s first 5 Star Green Star - Office As Built V2 Certified Rating
  • Council House 2, Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star - Office Design Certified Rating and winner of awards such as The Sustainable Building Services Award (UK) 2007 Sustainable Building/Development of the Year
  • NELHA, the first LEED platinum rated building in Hawaii, and the first building in the world to use deep sea water for 100% cooling without the need for fans.
  • The Summer in Perth, Australia’s first Green Star Certified multi unit residential
  • Melbourne Convention Centre, the first 6 Star Green Star Convention Centre rating and winner of the Banksia 2009 Built Environment Award
  • City Central Tower 1 in Adelaide, Australia’s first building to be awarded both a 5 Star Green Star - Office As Built V2 Certified Rating and a 5 Star Green Star - Office Design V2 Certified Rating
  • Southern Cross Station in Melbourne, Australia’s first recipient of the prestigious Lubetkin Prize (2007) from the Royal Institute of British Architects

Our leadership in green buildings also extends into precincts and masterplanning. We delivered the first environmental rating tool in Australia with the development of the Docklands ESD guide. We are master engineers on Fraser’s Broadway; we guided the New South Wales State Government East Darling Harbour, and we were the sustainability advisors on South Korea’s 607 hectare Songdo Landmark City.

As part of the WSP Group, WSP Lincolne Scott has increased its capacity to deliver world leading projects that are both environmentally sustainable and commercially viable.

The WSP Group has developed world leading carbon footprinting methodologies; carbon strategies for Harvard University, and; large scale international benchmark projects such as the world’s  first zero carbon/ zero waste city, Masdar, in Abu Dhabi. Through the WSP Group, WSP Lincolne Scott and its specialist brands also have a growing global presence.

Last but not least, WSP Lincolne Scott practices what it preaches. We were the first Australian company to make its entire Asia Pacific operations climate neutral, something of which we are immensely proud.
