The seven-story, 250,000 sf Newseum blends five centuries worth of news history, while featuring 22 exhibit galleries - many of them hands-on. The iconic New York Times - Ochs-Sulzberger Family Great Hall of News features a 90-foot-high atrium and a 40-by-22-foot high-definition media screen. The screen, visible both inside and outside the museum, features historical and current events as well as breaking news.
The Newseum also features a food court, a two-level Newseum Store, a 24,000 sf conference center, a three-level restaurant and more than 140,000 square feet of residential apartments. In addition to the 132 Newseum residential units, a fitness center and a below-grade parking facility are available for resident use.
The building's total area - including office space, conference center, broadcast studios, retail areas, dining facilities and residences is 643,000 square feet. After seven years of planning and design, Newseum opened its doors in April of 2008.
The Newseum is located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixth Street, N.W. on America’s Main Street between the White House and the U.S. Capitol and adjacent to the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall.
