This new academic mixed-use project will produce more than 6.8 million square feet of space for teaching, research, underground parking, and support services, while creating new facilities for civic, cultural, recreational, and commercial activity.
WSP Cantor Seinuk is providing full structural engineering services for Phase 1, which encompasses 1.2 million SF and is planned to comprise the following:
- Jerome Greene Mind Brain Behavior Institute New $360 million research facility that will house an NHP barrier facility, brain imaging facilities, core research state of the art laboratories with world class conference facilities and spaces at the penthouse level.
- New 70,000 SF School of The Arts
- New 400,000 SF School of International and Public affairs
- Below Grade and Campus Energy Plant: The existing conditions at the site add complexity to the design including: a dormant seismic fault, a high groundwater table, a 250 ft. depth to rock, the proximity of the elevated #1 subway line on the east side and the elevated riverside viaduct on the west side. The site will be surrounded with a deep diaphragm/slurry wall system providing water cutoff and structural stiffness to minimize settlement of the elevated subway and the viaduct.
The project is being designed using Autodesk Revit 3-D BIM and is also being designed to achieve LEED status.
In addition, WSP Cantor Seinuk has been awarded the below grade space for Phase 2 (approximate total gross area 400,000 SF).
