Building information modelling (BIM)

WSP has pioneered Building Information Modelling (BIM) in structural engineering for some years. BIM is used to ensure consistency in the design and implementation phases of a project, and greatly improves the collaboration between architects, engineers and the developer. For instance, one advantage with BIM is that all changes during the design process can be immediately incorporated in drawings and material schedule.

BIM models are built using Autodesk® Revit® for both Structural and MEP aspects. All the elements are used to produce the basic visualization plan, the inter-disciplinary design coordination, clash analysis, documentation and real-time scheduling as well as the direct link to Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) analysis using IES Virtual Environment system.

At WSP we utilise BIM for drawing production, design coordination, material scheduling and various analyses (structural analysis, rationalization of building geometry, solar study, fire engineering analysis, air-flow analysis, etc.) which are essential for the design phase.

In 2008, WSP HK wins Hong Kong Revit BIM Experience Award for our outstanding design for CCRC Project in Singapore.

In 2009, WSP HK's project, Kerry Centre at 683 King's Road, Hong Kong, won Autodesk HK BIM Awards 2009.

In 2011, WSP HK won Best Use of BIM in Multi-Disciplinary Application and Interoperability Award at BIM BUZZ@Singapore 2011 Competition.
