The project involves the assessment of impacts (bio-physical and socio-economical) associated with the proposed establishment of two new vertical shafts and its associated infrastructure within the existing mining area.
In addition to the establishment of the new shafts the mine is undertaking a parallel study in which the current available UG2 mining operations will be increased by exploiting the UG2 Chromitite ore reserves via mined out Merensky infrastructure and will involve the upgrading of existing infrastructure with the exception of a few additional infrastructure. The Amandelbult Project aims to ensure long term viability of the mine and in response respond to the socio-economic needs of the area.
