The government sector includes local government, public buildings and transport and infrastructure assets. In all parts of the world WSP are active in the government sector with road, prison, court and defence projects.
We work for major Government transport agencies including Swedish Rail, Highways Agency, Transport for London, Roads and Transport Authority and Finish Roads Agency.
In the UK our largest local government client is Transport for London who is responsible for the operation and management of the capital’s transport infrastructure – commissions include street management stewardship, transport interchanges and property asset management.
We also have a number of long standing relationships with City Authorities and Municipalities including many of the London boroughs, Stockholm, Malmo, Helsinki, Dubai, Cape Town, Durban, Edinburgh and New York. We work with many Governments across the world through our aid business and working closely with organisations such as the World Bank, Asian Bank, ERBD and EU and have government aid projects in Afghanistan, Nepal, Yemen, Bangladesh, Serbia and Poland.
WSP are a leading designer of government buildings: in the custodial sub-sector we have had significant involvement in the UK PFI/PPP prison programme; in the courts sub-sector we are very active including the new landmark Middlesex Supreme Court in Westminster; and in the defence sector we have undertaken many projects including the 1m sq ft MoD Whitehall office refurbishments, one of the UK’s largest PFI accommodation projects. We are increasingly sharing this expertise with other parts of our business as Governments around the world are using PFI/PPP to drive their public sector investments.
WSP undertake many public realm projects across the world including libraries, museums and art galleries.
