Shanghai Business Park, China

The Shanghai Business Park currently under construction just outside Shanghai aims to attract international and domestic companies, especially those in the information industry. The park is planned with long-term occupiers in mind, offering a high level of accommodation, an attractive environment, better value than city centre offices, and flexibility for a wide range of uses.  The park will be developed in phases according to the take-up by future tenants.

International skills and experience

WSP’s appointment as main engineering consultant was based on our capability to provide a fully integrated engineering service and on our international project management experience and technical skills.  Combined with our local knowledge these ensure relevant, cost-effective delivery of a product of international standards.

In addition they enable us to fulfil a key requirement for effective coordination with various parties including international and local firms, clients, future tenants, government organisations and utilities agencies, greatly assisted by the bilingual skills of our engineers.

The project is progressing on schedule, with infrastructure and landscape construction of the first and second phases complete, and construction of the first two speculative buildings complete in the autumn of 2006.  Under construction is the first “pre-let” to Philips for 20 000 sq m of R&D facilities, with a further 18 000 sq m to follow.

WSP look forward to continuing to contribute to the success of the project, which will be testament to the rapid acceptance of the new business park model in Shanghai and China as a welcome alternative to the standard downtown office tower.
