Ryan Hanley WSP (a partnership between WSP and Irish consultants, Ryan Hanley) was one of eight framework consultants assisting the National Roads Authority of the Republic of Ireland to set up the Eirspan Bridge Management System.
Ryan Hanley WSP was allocated bridges in the counties of Louth, Monaghan, Cavan and Galway in the Repulic of Ireland.
Phase 1 of the project consisted of the setting up of the structure database for the National Primary and Secondary roads by means of:
- Inventory of each of the 224 bridges in the 4 counties
- Inventory of 89 retaining walls
- Inventory of 74 culverts
- Principal Inspections of the bridges and retaining walls
Phase 2 of the project started in 2002 and consists of the following actions as a result of the information gained from the database:
- Special inspections and concrete testing
- Repair strategies
- Whole life financial appraisals
- Structural assessments
Phase 3 started in 2003 and has consisted of repair and replacement schemes consisting of :
- Design
- Technical approval
- Contract documents
- Tender evaluation
- Site supervision
