The Mast is a 31 storey residential and retail development in the new Point Waterfront area in Durban, South Africa. It is one of a number of landmark buildings which are contributing to the transformation of Point Waterfront from a previously dilapidated area into a prestigious retail, hotel, entertainment and residential complex.
WSP is providing a full multi disciplinary consultancy service for the Mast.
Fit-out for sell-on
The client requires a development with minimal finishes, which will then be sold on to intermediate development companies. The design must therefore incorporate the full infrastructure to allow for the final fit-out to the standard of a modern upmarket residential complex.
Benefits of a collaborative and pro-active approach
- Co-ordination of all services in-house before the designs are passed on to the architectural team for design review and incorporation into the building streamlines the design process.
- The building fabric has been moulded to accept the requirements of the mechanical, wet services, fire services and electrical systems. Close co-ordination between the structural engineers and the services consultants enables effective incorporation of pipes, conduits, fittings and fixtures in the walls.
- Detailed discussions with the local fire authority have ensured that the design accommodates the appropriate fire safety and protection requirements.
