Though the project is still at design stage, WSP has already built a complete building information model and is now using it to optimise the plans. “We’re looking at a typical residential or hotel floor and examining the floor-to-floor sandwich, to give the ownership the maximum floor-to-ceiling heights so that they can derive the greatest value from the building,” says Kamran Moazami, WSP Buildings Director. “We’re also looking at the plant layout with respect to architecture, space and access to optimise allocations for mechanical plant rooms.” The WSP team is also working with quantity surveyor EC Harris to enable them to take the most accurate quantities from the building information model.
Following WSP’s success in providing contractors drawings from the building information model at London Bridge Place, Kamran Moazami hopes that WSP will be able to repeat this at an earlier stage in this project, which will allow components to be fabricated ahead of time and improve the accuracy of the procurement process.
