City Line and BIM
This includes design documents and technical support during construction of two sections of tunnel in the central two kilometres of the line from Odenplan Station to the southern dock of Riddarholmen; and all the designs for the Central Station including structures, architecture and M&E, risk analysis, environmental, water, sewerage and geotechnical engineering.
The WSP design team has created its own BIM model using its own, virtual reality, open source software. The model incorporates the architecture, construction, rock design, M&E and light construction.

The construction company is using the model for information, and it also appears on the client’s website for the public to view progress on the project.
A number of additional software products were used to construct the model including Autodesk (ADT, Navisworks), Solid Work´s, MagiCAD, and also Tekla for the light steel construction elements and including all data such as quantities. All elements of the design are shown in 3D; however this model does not include other data so cannot be used for calculations.
The model is very easy to use and its key benefit lies in enabling understanding of the full complexity of this part of the project. The space into which all elements must interoperate is extremely confined and some parts would be impossible to design without the use of 3D modelling. In particular it is proving helpful in detecting and preventing clashes between the architecture and M&E and tunnel design, and in communicating the designs to the client.
