After graduation I joined the mechanical and electrical team at WSP’s head office in London as a building services engineer in July 2000. My role involved providing sustainable solutions through the design, supervision, testing and commissioning of services within buildings. This included defining the requirements for various schemes, carrying out calculations, research work, site visits and liaising with clients and project design teams.
During my time in this role, I completed an MSc in Built Environment (Environmental Design and Engineering) which I studied part time. WSP encouraged me with these studies and provided sponsorship.
In April 2006, I joined the newly formed WSP Energy business which acts as a focal point for our energy and sustainability expertise worldwide. My remit is to provide technical input on the production of innovative energy strategies and sustainable masterplanning schemes and focuses on delivering sustainable development solutions all over the world by producing low and zero carbon energy strategies on a micro and macro level. The projects I get involved with are diverse and this gives me the opportunity to review pioneering technologies in this new growth area.
With climate change being one of the major issues confronting the built environment today, this role is an exciting opportunity to influence the effects of business and government on the built environment.
Since joining WSP I have gained a great deal of knowledge, experience and ultimately responsibility. My future here at WSP will involve working on more high profile projects and innovating global sustainable solutions.
